PAN Card Validator – India
A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique 10-character alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department of India to all taxpaying entities. It is mandatory for filing income tax returns, opening bank accounts, and financial transactions above certain thresholds.
PAN Structure
PAN follows the format AAAAA0000A:
- Characters 1–3: Three letters representing the holder's surname (or entity name) initials in alphabetical series
- Character 4: Entity type code (P = Individual, C = Company, H = HUF, etc.)
- Character 5: First letter of the PAN holder's surname (for individuals) or name (for entities)
- Characters 6–9: Sequential number from 0001 to 9999
- Character 10: An alphabetic check character
