Audio Format Converter — Which Format Should You Use?
MP3 is the most universally compatible format — supported by every device and platform since 1993. WAV is uncompressed PCM audio with perfect quality but large file sizes (~10MB/minute). FLAC is lossless compression — same quality as WAV but 40-60% smaller. OGG Vorbis is an open-source alternative to MP3, often used in games and web apps. AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is the successor to MP3 with better quality at the same bitrate — the default format for iOS, YouTube, and Spotify. M4A is Apple's container for AAC audio, used by iTunes and Apple Music. For music archiving use FLAC; for streaming/sharing use AAC or MP3 at 192-320kbps.
