Chinese Zodiac Calculator — 12 Animal Signs & 5 Elements
The Chinese zodiac (生肖, Shēngxiào) is a repeating cycle of 12 years, each represented by an animal: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Unlike Western astrology which uses months, Chinese astrology assigns a zodiac animal to each year. The cycle also incorporates five elements — Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth — creating a 60-year cycle where each animal/element combination repeats once. For example, 1990 was the year of the Metal Horse. Compatibility is traditionally considered between signs that form harmonious trines or allied relationships in the 12-year cycle. The Dragon is considered the most auspicious sign, while the Rat begins each 12-year cycle. Note: the Chinese New Year falls between January 21 and February 20; if born in January or early February, you may belong to the prior year's sign.
