WHO Risk Classification
| Risk Category | WHR (Male) | WHR (Female) | Your Status |
|---|---|---|---|
Low Risk | < 0.85 | < 0.80 | |
Moderate Risk | 0.85 – 1.0 | 0.80 – 0.85 | ← You're here |
High Risk | >= 1.0 | >= 0.85 |
Slightly elevated cardiovascular risk. Consider lifestyle improvements.
Waist circumference risk thresholds (WHO): Men — moderate risk: 94cm, high risk: 102cm. Women — moderate: 80cm, high: 88cm.
Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator — WHO Risk Classification
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is a measure of body fat distribution and is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome risk. Formula: WHR = Waist circumference / Hip circumference. WHO classifications: Low risk in men: WHR < 0.85; women: < 0.80. High risk: men ≥ 1.0; women ≥ 0.85. The waist-to-height ratio (WHR ≤ 0.5) is another useful predictor — keeping your waist to less than half your height is a simple health target. Unlike BMI, WHR accounts for where fat is distributed: abdominal (apple-shaped) fat carries significantly higher risk than hip/thigh (pear-shaped) fat.
