Carbon Footprint Calculator — Flights, Driving & Electricity
Estimate your personal carbon footprint from three major sources: flights, car travel, and electricity consumption. Flight emission factors come from DEFRA 2023 and account for flight class (business class is approximately 3× economy, first class 4×) and flight length (short-haul has higher per-km emissions due to the fuel-intensive take-off phase). Car factors cover petrol, diesel, hybrid, PHEV, and electric vehicles — note that electric vehicles still produce emissions via the electricity grid. Electricity emissions vary widely by country: France (nuclear) produces ~52 gCO2e/kWh while India (coal-heavy) produces ~708 gCO2e/kWh. These estimates cover only direct footprint — a full lifecycle analysis would be higher. The global average is approximately 4 tonnes CO2e per person per year; the science-based target for 2030 is 2.5 tonnes.
